Scienece

Your children will study Science throughout their school careers. To meet the requirements of the National Curriculum, science is divided into two distinct stages. Key Stage 3: (Years 7, 8 & 9) and Key Stage 4: (Years 10 & 11). The school has a total of 11 well equipped science laboratories and 1 Science computer suite.
Our Mission
As a team, we are committed, in partnership with our local schools, colleges and businesses, to developing Science in ways that inspire and challenge our students, to enable us raise achievement in Science and across the curriculum.

Key Stage 3

Our aim is to develop an active interest and enthusiasm in Science and to ensure thorough coverage of the National Curriculum, which covers the following four areas of study:
1. Scientific investigation
2. Life processes and living things
3. Materials and their properties
4. Physical processes
Key Stage 4
At KS4, students will study the OCR 21st Century Science course. Depending upon ability and whether they participate in a college course, students undertake one of three pathways:-
1. Triple Science - 3 distinct GCSEs (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) are awarded.
2. Science A and Additional Science – 2GCSEs are awarded.
3. Science A and Additional Applied Science- 2 GCSE awarded
4. Science A – 1 GCSE is awarded.
5. Applied Science
Students will study the three disciplines, Biology, Chemistry and Physics throughout their KS4 course in varying levels of depth and detail according to the course they are following. In addition to theoretical knowledge, students will undertake practical work and be given the opportunity to consider ‘How Science Works’ and the impact it has on every day life.
Key Stage 5
At KS5 Biology, offered through OCR at both AS and A2 level, these subjects are delivered by specialist teachers. In September 2010, OCR A Chemistry will be offered.
