Religious Education
GCSE Religious Studies
The course is designed to promote an interest in moral and ethical issues.
It involves:
- making moral decisions.
- politics in the UK and the relationship of Christianity to politics
- the Welfare State and Christianity
- religion and the environment
- religion and animal rights issues
- bullying
- religion and war
- conflict with families and friends
- religious attitudes(and non-religious) attitudes to crime and punishment(including capital punishment)
This course will:
- help you to think through some of the big issues of life which adults argue about all the time
- prepare you to work and deal with different people of different cultures and beliefs
- help to remove the ignorance which cause prejudice, hatred violence (many wars are caused through misunderstanding about religion
- protect you from indoctrination, it gives you the opportunity to explore beliefs in a safe and questioning environment so that you can become sure of your own beliefs and explain them clearly to others

What further study or careers can this lead to?
Students who wish to study further have the opportunity to A level Religious Education within the North East Consortium.
It is a recognised course for the purposes of a wide variety of careers and further education opportunities
Many employers (especially the police, armed forces, journalism, broadcasting and caring professions) regard GCSE Religious Studies as a good qualification. It involves a lot of thinking and shows you are aware of other people’s beliefs, and the nature of the society in which we lives
