ICT AT EASTBROOK

Today, the effect of ICT can be seen in most areas of life – for example, commerce, transport, logistics etc. In addition, the use of ICT is rapidly changing.

The ICT department at Eastbrook School is equipped with the excellent resources, designed to be relevant to the learners’ aspirations. Students take pride in the quality of their work. Teachers encourage learners to develop the breadth and depth of their knowledge and skills in preparation for the future. Students are given the opportunity to use ICT to best effect.


Key Stage 3

At the start of the year, students are given introductory lessons on how to use the computers in the school. They the follow the National Strategy. Learners learn about how to present information effectively using a range of packages – desktop publishing, presentation, word processing, spreadsheets, web publishing, database and control.


Key Stage 4 (Core)

Learners will study a range of key ICT concepts, such as presentations, using email, internet research, computer graphics, creating business documents and web development. They follow the OCR Nationals in ICT.


Key Stage 4 (OCR Nationals Option)

Learners also have the option to choose an option in ICT. Learners who take this option develop advanced and specialist skills in ICT, such as creating multimedia and animations. They take on more units of the OCR Nationals in ICT.


Key Stage 4 (BTEC Option)

The BTEC Certificate for ICT Practitioners is designed to introduce learners to the constantly evolving technologies in ICT.

Learners will be put in take the role of ICT practitioners and will learn units such as Using ICT to Present Information, Networking Essentials, Mobile Communication Technology, Software Installations and Upgrade, Database Software, ICT Projects, Computer Systems and Doing Business Online.


Key Stage 5 (OCR Nationals Level 3)

Learner gain a wide range of practical skills in the latest ICT technologies. Students carry out activities that are relevant and linked to the workplace. Learners choose from a variety of units, such as Digital Business Communication, Collaborative Working, Producing a Business Plan, Advanced Database, Advanced Spreadsheet and E-Commerce.
